Went to the PowerLeap site and ran the InSPECS program this told me what Upgrades would work in my computer. Emailed this
information to Power Leap Sales Department, and my Upgrade was sent out via UPS. Was sent out on Monday, I got it before the
end of the day Tuesday. The Sales Department at PowerLeap are great ! my sales person was Beth Nash every time I emailed her
she got right back to me. And not only did they get my upgrade out to me , they let me use some of there images on my web
site.
It came in a nice little box that contained the following ….
1. Processor Upgrade which was the PL-ip3/T 1400GHz CPU for Slot-1 with cooling fan
2. Power cable for Processor Upgrade
3. Some jumpers ( Did not need them, the jumpers on the upgrade were preset before it was sent out )
4. Quick Start Guide
5. A little Sicker to put on PC that Reads .. "Powered By PowerLeap CPU Upgrades"
The first thing that needed to be done was make a BIOS Update Disk. Went to IBM.com For the BIOS update and downloaded
that, then to PowerLeap.com for the Ibm Microcode that has to be added to the same disk to complete the BIOS update disk.
PowerLeap gives you all this information for what ever system you are upgrading. Was told that I needed to install the BIOS
Update with the present Processor in my computer.
Did the BIOS update and turn off my computer and unplugged everything. Opened the case and laid it on it’s side to
work on. It’s a good idea to have some canned air on hand to clean the inside of your case and fans. So first thing
was to remove my old processor looked at the Quick Start Guide it said " While pushing clips inward, gently pull out the old
Processor". Pushed in on the clips and pulled, the thing would not come out. Tired again, won’t come out. Looked at
the Quick Start Guide again ?? Yes I’m doing what it said ?? so what’s up? One more time, but this time I pushed
Outward on the clips the old Processor came right out. Don’t know if this is just a thing with IBM computers but it
was push Outward not Inward who, cares I got it out LOL. Took the new PowerLeap Processor out of its bag made sure I had it
going the right way and it popped right in no problem.
Then took the power cable and located an unused connector from the power supply and plugged in the provided power cable,
plugged the little connector into the PL-iP3/T unit. Once again no problems took about 10 minutes . You need the power cable
do to PowerLeaps Patented Independent Power Source (IPS) Technology. Read all about this technology on PowerLeaps web site.
Time to fire it up ! Plugged everything back in, I did leave the case cover off so I could look inside an make sure the
new Processor was working . Turned on the computer looked inside saw the LED on the new Processor come on. Looked at my monitor
as the computer was booting, then it stop and I got the following Error… " 167 No Processor BIOS Update Found". Tried
to boot again and got the same Error. This time I put the BIOS update disk in before I booted and it fired right up. So you
need to flash the BIOS again after you install the new processor.
Have been running it for about 4 days now and not one problem. All I got to say is FAST, FAST ,FAST ITS LIKE HAVING A NEW
COMPUTER !! Had been thinking of maybe getting a new computer but I’m going to add some memory, graphics card, sound
card and run this one for a year or two more now. Thanks PowerLeap !! You have got to get one of these they are the best Processor
Upgrade out there go to PowerLeap’s web site and take a look. The old Processor makes a nice paper weight too. I ran
InSPECS and CPU-Z before and after the Processor upgrade have added them for you to look at.
